  • Vote to switch to safer products or easier ways to be green

  • Tell us how you can green your team
Vote for the City to buy green from SFApproved.org
I vote to continue to see who bought green and prohibited products so we know why a department won the Team Award.
I vote to require vendors to allow City staff to shop online to buy green, not PROHIBITED products.
I vote for the purchasing system (ADPICS, RAS, Maximo) to allow staff to find green products not PROHIBITED products.
I vote for the City to switch to:
Rechargeable AA and AAA batteries (new hybrids last about one year)
Less-toxic cleaners
Electronics cleaners (brushes, vacuums, air blowers. Computer can dusters cost more because they're disposable and cause climate change.
Local, organic, unprocessed, vegetarian food
Less-toxic graffiti removers
Microfiber cloths and mops (cleans 10% faster; saves chemicals, water; mops more ergonomic)
Energy efficient lighting: LEDs, CFLs instead of incandescents (A-shape, 40-150 watts w/screw-in bases- A15,A19, A21)
Recycled and/or less-toxic antifreeze, lubricants/oils (for rust, machines, vehicles)
Correction tape instead of correction fluid (suspected cancer-causing)
China markers because most permanent markers have an odorous, hazardous solvent.
Refillable whiteboard markers because most others have an odorous, hazardous solvent.
Recycled or Green Seal paints

Acetone (less toxic paint thinner)

I vote for City staff to consult with San Francisco Department of Environment before buying prohibited products.

If City staff buy PROHIBITED products, I suggest these disincentives
I buy green...
If SFE can see my storeroom and tell me what to keep/switch.
If it'll save money.
If I can win green products and the Buy Green Team of Year Award.
If I can be in the City's List of Staff That Bought GREEN. I don't want to get in the List That Bought PROHIBITED products.
Because I trust how green products are added to SFApproved.org.
Because it's the law for City staff to shop at SFApproved.org.
When it protects my health and environment.
